Forest Bathing – What is it?

Forest Bathing derives from the Japanese ‘Shinrin Yoku’ which roughly translates as absorbing the forest atmosphere through your senses and has been a major component of the Japanese health service for over 45 years, clinically tested and proven to support health and well being.

It is a series of guided slow, optional invitations each lasting 20-45 minutes which, over 3 hours, allows you to deeply engage your senses and connect to nature at a deeper level. It is slow and relaxing - invitations always include a deep relaxation but others might be creative, contemplative , a nature treasure hunt or sitting quietly breathing with a tree. Time is spent in a state of connected solitude and gives you an enhanced connection to nature and to yourself.

What isn’t it?

You don’t need swim wear. It isn’t 10,000 steps. You don’t have to do anything that doesn’t feel right to you. It can be adapted to your needs - and taken at your own pace. It’s not scary - small group size maximum 10 - can be 1 to 1 if needed.

The benefits

  • Boosts serotonin levels leaving you relaxed and calm, giving you a good nights sleep.

  • Lowers cortisol levels and balances blood pressure and heart rate.

  • Boosts the immune system (including those cancer fighting NK cells).

  • Leaves you with a feeling of well being, peace and clarity. Elevating mood.

  • Gives you a step up the nature connection scale and a new tool in your self care tool kit that you can take home with you.
